Hello! Guten Tag! হ্যালো! नमस्ते! வணக்கம்! !مرحبا

Welcome to The Curious Linguist. Here I want to discuss and explore grammar, culture, language, and linguistics. I have have a segment where I teach Bangla grammar which I write alongside my exchange sister, who is a native speaker, so make sure to check that out if you’re learning Bangla!

But first a little about me: I grew up speaking only English although my mom and dad are fluent in Russian and German, respectively. I have been learning languages my whole life, but my passion really took off around early 2017 when I started learning American Sign Language and Bangla soon after. About a year later I started teaching English to a Syrian family, and so from there began to learn Syrian and Modern Standard Arabic. I took Spanish for seven years growing up, and last year I began to rediscover my Spanish. Currently I am studying some basic Italian in preparation for some traveling in Europe!

I can read German, Bengali, Devanagari, Tamil, and Arabic (which are the scripts you see at the top, in this order).

I am interested in linguistic typology, contact linguistics, multilingualism, and writing systems, with my passion lying especially in Indian and signed languages. Join the conversation or give me feedback by leaving a comment. I would love to hear from other language nerds and listen to your language-learning stories. Also feel free to ask me any questions about Bangla or suggest a grammar topic to cover. Happy reading!
